WWE has officially announced that WrestleMania 36 will take place on April 5 from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando with no audience.
They released this statement on their website tonight:
WWE statement regarding WrestleMania 36
In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.
The stunning announcement means that WWE will hold their biggest event of the year in a training facility with no fans in attendance, forgoing a large gate from ticket sales at the 65,000 seat Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
It was reported earlier today that this was an option that was being considered, and moving the show to June at Raymond James Stadium was another option, though there’s no guarantee that the coronavirus pandemic would be any better by then. PWInsider reported that Vince McMahon was said to be “adamant” that WrestleMania would take place on April 5, and here we are.
As for the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony and NXT TakeOver, originally scheduled for April 2 and April 4 in Tampa, respectively, WWE released this statement to media:
The WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony and NXT TakeOver will not take place as previously scheduled. We will share further details as they become available.
WrestleMania not being rescheduled in Tampa is also a huge blow to the several smaller promotions that run big shows during WrestleMania week in Tampa.
