As noted before, Gerald Brisco recently announced on Twitter that he was released by WWE, ending a 36-year career with the company. Brisco’s release was part of a larger wave of staff releases made by the company on Thursday.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE released around 70 employees and mainly targeted those who were live event producers, production managers, or worked in other areas of live events, merchandise, and travel.
Meltzer reported that the general feeling from those who had been furloughed earlier in the year and were recently released was one of bitterness over the company’s broken promises to bring back all who were furloughed. Another source of the bitterness reportedly revolved around the company posting record profits for the current fiscal year’s second quarter and the big monetary contract given to WWE’s new President Nick Khan.
Meltzer also reported that WWE officials currently do not have any plans to release talent as part of this new wave of cutbacks nor any time soon.
