Tonight on SmackDown, WWE announced that next week’s SmackDown will be a live “throwback edition.”
In a video featuring the old SmackDown logo, an announcer said, “Next Friday, we’re going back. Waaaaay back. Friday Night SmackDown, Throwback Edition, live, next Friday, 8/7 central.”

In 2018, WWE did a throwback Raw episode for Raw’s 25th anniversary, which took place both at the Manhattan Center in Manhattan and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. That show was widely considered to be a disappointment, with WWE doing the vast majority of the show from the Barclays Center with a modern Raw set instead of the retro Raw set in the Manhattan Center.
