Friday’s episode of AEW Rampage featured the long rumored and awaited AEW debut of CM Punk.
Punk made his entrance to “Cult of Personality” to a sold out crowd at the United Center in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
Punk delivered a passionate promo thanking fans for being patient and waiting for his return after all these years. Punk also reflected on his time in Ring of Honor and his departure from professional wrestling in 2005 after leaving ROH for WWE. Punk stated “On August 13, 2005, I left professional wrestling. On August 20, 2021, I’m back and I’m back for you.”
Punk also talked about Darby Allin and issued a challenge for a match between the two at AEW’s All Out 2021 event on September 5th in Chicago, Illinois.
Following his appearance, AEW confirmed on Twitter that Punk has been signed to an official contract with the company.
