Following last week’s generally poorly-received Royal Rumble, several WWE wrestlers reached out to Fightful Select with various frustrations and complaints, claiming that backstage morale is very low and even at an “all-time low.”
Fightful says that they were contacted by wrestlers ranging from consistent main eventers to people rarely on TV, and both long time veterans and newcomers, who expressed frustration and dismay in WWE’s current direction.
The Royal Rumble was said to be a major point of frustration, including feelings that most wrestlers were not highlighted or given notable spots, issues with how the match was produced, and the lack of followup on angles that built to the Royal Rumble match.
Wrestlers also had issues with WWE’s current direction in general.
One longtime talent said that “nothing matters” outside of “maybe” four people on the roster. At least six wrestlers complained about issues with storyline continuity and the lack of attention to the majority of the roster and the feeling of “nobody else being designed to do anything.”
Wrestlers also complained about feeling like they didn’t have a “voice,” with one saying that they’ve never felt “less heard.” That wrestler said that attempts to talk to Vince McMahon are often either ignored or WWE even seemingly spitefully “goes the other way” after their recommendations.
One wrestler told Fightful, “if you see a complaint with merit and in good faith about something that lacks sense, logic or continuity, I almost guarantee we have complained too. It just never changes anything.”
Several wrestlers also believe that WWE is being primed to be put up for sale.
It was noted that this doesn’t reflect the entire WWE roster as a whole, only the several wrestlers that reached out with their frustrations.
