This past Saturday’s Royal Rumble 2022 event featured Bobby Lashley defeating Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship. During this past Monday’s episode of RAW, it was announced that Lashley would be defending his title in an Elimination Chamber match against Lashley, Lesnar, Austin Theory, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, and Riddle at this month’s Elimination Chamber event in Saudi Arabia.
In regards to WWE’s current WrestleMania 38 plans, Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that WWE officials are currently leaning towards Lesnar regaining his WWE Championship at their upcoming Elimination Chamber event. These same sources also stated that the current expectation is that Vince McMahon will make the official decision for Lesnar’s match against Roman Reigns to be a title vs. title match at WrestleMania 38. Meltzer reported that both Paul Heyman and Lesnar have recently been pushing in favor of this idea.
In regards to Heyman tuning on Lesnar and rejoining Reigns during the Universal Championship match at this past weekend’s Royal Rumble 2022 event, Meltzer reported that this was not the original plan for Heyman. WWE officials reportedly felt that due to Lesnar not being a full-time talent and the Reigns & Heyman dynamic being so strong, they made the decision to reunite the duo sooner than originally planned.
