As noted before, Cody Rhodes left AEW this past February and has been in talks with WWE for a potential return to the company, which have gone from being a “sure thing” to “very uncertain” in status over the past week.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that Rhodes and WWE have still yet to come to terms for a potential deal.
Meltzer reported that WWE still has creative plans in place for Rhodes at this year’s WrestleMania 38 event and while both sides are still negotiating, time is starting to run out to get those plans in motion in time for the event.
Meltzer speculated that it would make sense for Rhodes to make his official WWE return at this Monday’s RAW show due to it being in Jacksonville, Florida but it would all depend on Rhodes’ contract talks situation being resolved within the next few days.
Meltzer also reported that it is currently not known what are the issues between the two sides that are causing Rhodes’ contract talks to be stalled.
Meltzer stated “His status has changed, in theory. He was on the books in WWE. They had creative laid out for him. They still thought on Friday (March 4th) that they had creative laid out for him. Now, it’s very uncertain. They don’t know what’s going on with Cody Rhodes. They’re not sure.”
