As noted before, Bobby Fish’s contract with AEW expired this past July.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that while both Fish and AEW officials had some interest regarding a potential new deal, both sides were unable to come to terms over monetary reasons. It was also reported that AEW officials did not have any real creative plans for Fish following Kyle O’Reilly being out of action since this past June due to neck and other injuries.
It was also reported that AEW officials initially believed that Fish’s departure was amicable until Fish made several recent posts on social media that were critical of CM Punk and the company itself. Those spoken to stated that Fish is still friends with many people within the company but his issues with Punk reportedly originated from Fish not appreciating Punk’s attitude towards him following their match in October of 2021. Those spoken to stated that Fish’s issues with Punk did not play any role in his contract expiring.
It was also reported that their sources within WWE stated that it is currently not known if the company has reached out to Fish for a potential return but his name has not been brought up in any recent internal discussions.
