WWE officials reportedly are currently planning for the Edge vs. Finn Balor Hell in a Cell match to take place on Night 1 and for the Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus vs. Gunther (c) Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat match to take place on Night 2 of WrestleMania 39, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
In regards to the card of Night 1, Dave Meltzer reported that his sources stated the only matches locked in as of the time of his report are the SmackDown Women’s Championship match of Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair (c) and the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match of Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens vs. The Usos (c).
In regards to the card of Night 2, Meltzer reported that the only matches locked in as of the time of his report is the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match of Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns (c). Meltzer also reported that the current belief is that card for Night 2 will be featuring the Six-Women Tag Team match of Damage CTRL vs. Becky Lynch, Lita, & Trish Stratus, the currently unannounced Rey Mysterio vs. Dominick Mysterio match, and the RAW Women’s Championship match of Asuka vs. Bianca Belair (c).
Meltzer reported that WWE plans for Night 2 of WrestleMania 39 have been completely changed compared to what the original plans were this past November for Night 2 with the exception of the main event being Roman Reigns defending his Undisputed WWE Universal title.
In regards to surprise appearances, Meltzer reported that WWE officials currently have plans for Randy Orton to make his return from back injury at the event. WWE officials also reportedly had held talks for potential plans for Big E to make an appearance on the show in a skit with New Day but this was prior to Kofi Kingston suffering an ankle injury.
In regards to the unannounced Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio match for WrestleMania 39, Meltzer reported that WWE officials are currently considering two different plans for the official announcement for that match. The first plan reportedly involves WWE shooting an angle at next Friday’s WWE Hall of Fame 2023 ceremony that would lead to a match between the two at WrestleMania 39. The other plan reportedly involves WWE shooting an angle during Night 1 that would lead to a match between the two on Night 2.
In regards to the status of Bray Wyatt’s match against Bobby Lashley, Meltzer reported that as of this week, Wyatt’s status for the event currently remains unknown. WWE officials reportedly have not held any talks regarding Wyatt for WrestleMania 39 since his recent absence over an undisclosed “physical illness” issue.
In regards to Ronda Rousey, Meltzer reported that WWE officials still have plans for her to compete at the event despite her arm injury. Rousey and Shanya Baszler reportedly are still currently planned to be one of the tag teams for the Women’s Fatal Four-Way Tag Team Showcase match at the event.
