Tony Khan Comments on Potential for AEW Multi-Day Event in Future
Sports Illustrated held a recent interview with AEW CEO Tony Khan. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts on AEW potentially holding a multi-day event similar to WWE’s WrestleMania in the future.
“We could do one event spanning a weekend and we could also do multiple events across a week. It’s something we’re considering, especially as we keep entering so many new debut markets. We’re looking forward to expanding and holding more huge events.”
Khan also gave his thoughts on AEW working with other promotions such as New Japan Pro Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA.
“I think New Japan Pro-Wrestling and AAA trust me and know we’re going to do right by their talent. That trust and honesty has allowed us to build relationships with different companies, and that’s why they send their top stars, champions and legends to AEW and Ring of Honor. Including international stars is very important to us, and we just featured that on Dynamite when Kenny Omega wrestled Vikingo in a critically acclaimed match. Wrestling promoters feel comfortable sending their wrestlers to AEW, and those international relationships have helped AEW grow.”
AEW Reportedly Hired Former WWE VP of Communications
AEW reportedly recently hired former WWE Vice President of Communications Adam Hopkins to an executive level position in the company, according to PWInsider.
Johnson reported that his sources stated that Hopkins officially stated with the company at their Dynamite tapings last week in St. Louis, Missouri. Johnson also reported that while Hopkins’ executive title in AEW is currently not known, he is likely expected to be working on the PR side of the company.
Prior to his departure from WWE earlier this year, Hopkins reportedly had been one of the longest ever tenured employees in WWE history with an over 25 year career in the company.
Those spoken to reportedly stated that Hopkins was the main person who had re-opened the doors for WWE to reach out and work with the pro wrestling media again. Hopkins reportedly also had a very influential role in the development of WWE’s NXT developmental brand under Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s vision.
