Prior to his announcement, AEW had planned for Punk’s return to the company to take place at their debut Collision show. Punk was originally planned to be part of Warner Bros Discovery’s official debut announcement for Collision but all mentions of him were removed due to issues between Punk and AEW over the status of Ace Steel’s recent rehiring to the company. These issues had led to AEW’s original plans and location for Collision’s debut show to be in doubt until it was recently resolved by both sides.
This will be Punk’s first appearance in AEW since this past September’s All Out 2022 due to his suspension over his involvement in an infamous backstage brawl incident.
