Friday’s New Year Dash 2024 event for New Japan Pro Wrestling in Tokyo, Japan featured former WWE talent Matt Riddle making a surprise appearance.
Following Hiroshi Tanahashi defeating Ryusuke Taguchi to retain his NJPW World Television Championship in the opening match on the show, a video aired on the big screen interrupting Tanahashi’s victory celebration. A mysterious person was seen wearing putting on Judo attire and training. A car was seen pulling up in frame and this mysterious person stepped out revealing himself to be Riddle.
Riddle gave a promo issuing a challenge to Tanahashi for his NJPW TV title. After the video ended, Tanahashi grabbed a microphone stating that he had no clue who that guy was but he will study to find out more about him and his challenge request.
