As noted before, Kazuchika Okada’s contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling officially expired today but he is still scheduled to work three more events for the company next month. Both WWE and AEW have been very interested in signing Okada to a contract with their companies.
Fightful Select reported that their sources confirmed that Pro Wrestling Tees pulling all of Okada’s merchandise from their store is due to the expiration of his contract with NJPW.
It was reported that while Okada had technically been under contract until today, NJPW’s parent company Bushiroad was stated to be “very understanding” of Okada negotiating with other companies after he had made it clear that he would not be re-signing to stay. It was also reported that things have been amicable between the two sides over Okada’s decision to leave the company.
In regards to WWE, it was reported that those spoken to stated that WWE has held recent talks with Okada. Several WWE talents spoken to reportedly stated that Okada has contacted some in their locker room to gauge his potential contract offers, learn more about WWE’s approach, and help decide the future of his career. It was also reported that WWE officials have not put any creative plans in plans for Okada nor have any pitches been made in this regard.
In regards to AEW, it was reported that those within AEW have been fairly confident about signing Okada. AEW CEO Tony Khan reportedly has been so confident that AEW officials have already put tentative plans together for Okada’s potential full-time debut in the company. It was also reported that AEW has already given a “substantial offer” to Okada for a deal.
In regards to Okada, it was reported that Barry Bloom has been representing Okada and has been acting as his agent for talks with other companies.
