As noted before, AEW is believed to have been working on plans for this year’s co-promoted Forbidden Door event with New Japan Pro Wrestling to take place at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York.
Andre Zarian reported in the debut episode of Fightful’s Beyond The Bell podcast that his sources stated that AEW and NJPW’s upcoming event is currently no longer being planned to take place at the venue. Zarian reported that AEW officials still have plans for this year’s event to take place in the New York City region.
In regards to the reason for the dropped plans, Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that NJPW officials did not want to split the high production costs with AEW over running their co-promoted event at that venue.
Following Zarian and Fightful’s reports, NJPW and AEW official Rocky Romero responded on Twitter denying Fightful’s report being true.
This is not true. https://t.co/cEUyZcU4xu
