As noted before, Daniel Garcia’s contract with AEW is currently set to expire this Fall. Garcia has been out of action for AEW since the July 3rd AEW Dynamite Beach Break 2024 show due to a storyline cervical injuries.
In a response to a recent question from a fan on Twitter, WrestlePurists’ Ibou reported that Garcia’s injury angle was meant to be AEW’s way of protecting themselves depending on Garcia’s decision for the future of his career. Ibou reported that if Garcia decided to stay, then he has a feud with MJF already set and he can jump right into it for his return. If Garcia decides to leave, then the injury angle was meant to be AEW’s way of writing him out of the company and in a way similar to what WWE did for Ricochet’s departure.
In a follow-up tweet, Ibou reported that AEW officials currently are hopeful that Garcia will stay with the company. Ibou also reported that Garcia has yet to sign a new deal and he currently has interest from other companies for a potential deal.
Bryan Alvarez reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources confirmed that AEW officials made the decision to book an injury angle for Garcia due to them being aware that there is the possibility that he might not come back.
Alvarez reported that Garcia had told others that he had been thinking about what he was going to do for his career and explore his options before making any decision. Alvarez also reported that those spoken to also confirmed that Garcia is currently believed to not have made an official decision yet on if he will sign a new contract or leave.
