Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Clarksville, Tennessee was notable for Ian Riccaboni filling in for Tony Schiavone, who was stated to be “on assignment” for his absence. This led to online speculation of Schiavone was punishes over a controversial tweet he later deleted that attacked NJPW English commentator Chris Charlton over controversial anti-AEW comments Charlton made during this past Sunday’s Wrestle Dynasty event.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that the reason for Schiavone’s absence was simply due to a family-related situation and not any suspension-related issue.
Meltzer reported that Schiavone is currently expected to return soon to AEW and likely by this Saturday’s AEW Collision show in Athens, Georgia.
