Tomohiro Ishii Wins NJPW Strong Openweight Title at Windy City Riot 2025

Friday’s Windy City Riot 2025 event for New Japan Pro Wrestling at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois featured Tomohiro Ishii defeating Gabe Kidd in a 30 Minute Iron Man match to become the new NJPW Strong Openweight Championship.

This was Ishii’s first NJPW Strong Openweight Championship victory of his NJPW career.

Young Bucks Challenge War Dogs for 8-Man Tag Match at Resurgence 2025

Friday’s NJPW Windy City Riot 2025 event also featured The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) making a surprise appearance.

During the show, a video aired on the big screen featuring the Young Bucks being seen seated inside a private jet. During their promo, the Young Bucks issued a challange to the Bullet Club War Dogs for an 8-Man Tag Team match at this May’s Resurgence 2025 event in their home town of Ontario, California. The Young Bucks teased at their mystery partners being the Good Brothers when they brought up who else would be on their team for this match.

Three-Way Match for Strong Women’s Title Set for Resurgence 2025

Friday’s NJPW Windy City 2025 event in Chicago also featured one new match announced for the card of Resurgence 2025, which takes place on May 9th at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.

This new match announced was a NJPW Strong Women’s Championship Three-way match of Mina Shirakawa vs. AZM vs. Mercedes Mone (c).

This match was setup following Shirakawa and AZM’s #1 Contender match ending in a double countout. Later in the show, NJPW English commentator Veda Scott announced that Rocky Romero has made official a Three-way match for the NJPW Strong Women’s title between Shirakawa, AZM, and Mone for Resurgence 2025.
