More on NXT May 20, 2025 Viewership
The May 20th episode of WWE NXT saw NXT gain a large increase in overall viewership but suffered a slight decline in key demographic ratings.
NXT drew 697,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating on The CW.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for NXT’s mixed results this week was due to the large increase from their Over 50 demographic viewership group, which its percentage was not given. This reportedly mostly offset the combination of the stiff sports competition from the 2025 NBA and NHL Playoffs and the large decline from their overall key demographic viewership group, which was down 13.4% compared to last week’s show. Of NXT’s key demographic viewership decline, their younger key demographic viewership group was down 21.4% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that this week’s show skewed much older than usual for a NXT show since the move to The CW.
In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2025 NBA Playoffs Game 1 of Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Oklahoma City Thunder drew 4,989,000 viewers on ESPN and 366,000 viewers on ESPN2, the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Game 1 of Florida Panthers vs. Carolina Hurricanes drew 1,296,000 viewers on TNT, the WNBA game of Atlanta Dream vs. Indiana Fever drew 581,000 viewers on NBA TV, the MLB game of New York Mets vs. Boston Red Sox drew 224,000 viewers on TBS, Curse of Oak Island drew 1,503,000 viewers on History Channel, 1000-LB Sisters drew 986,000 viewers on TLC, and Chopped drew 354,000 viewers on Food Network.
In terms of key demographic viewership, NXT had 174,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that NXT’s male/female viewership skew was 63% in favor of males.
In terms of yearly comparisons, NXT was up 6.6% in overall viewership but down 22.3% in key demographic viewership.

As noted before, a lawsuit was filed in November of 2023 by a group of WWE shareholders against former TKO and WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon over claims that McMahon had engaged in a “sham sale process” for WWE’s sale to Endeavor. Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston reported that McMahon’s attorneys recently filed a motion earlier this week before the Delaware Court of Chancery asking the court to deny the plaintiffs’ motion to compel further discovery. In the filing, McMahon is claiming that the theory that he had engaged in a shame sale process is “meritless” and he has already agreed to produce all documents that connect the sexual misconduct allegations to the merger process. McMahon is also claiming that he is drawing the line on handing over private and intimate conversations he had with women he had relationships with and messages with family members about those relationships. McMahon’s lawyers reportedly claimed that these materials are irrelevant to the lawsuit and the plaintiffs are using the discovery phase to “harass and pressure McMahon and his family” and re-litigate issues that were already addressed in a separate derivative lawsuit.
WWE recently released one new video to their WCW Vault channel on YouTube. This new video was a singles match of The Giant vs. Scott Norton from WCW Fall Brawl 1997.
WWE also recently released four new videos to their WWE Vault channel on YouTube. The first new video was a “Giant Gonzales’ long-lost standoff with Hulk Hogan: From the WWE Vault.” The second new video was a singles match of The Big Show vs. Mark Henry at WWE Money in the Bank 2011. The third new video was the full “Yokozuna | WWE Icons” documentary. The fourth new video was a “Best of Vader | 2 HOURS of full matches vs. Sting, Cactus Jack and more.”
In a recent episode of The Nikki & Brie Show podcast, WWE Hall of Fame Nikki Bella denied rumors of her confirming this past April that WWE will be holding a new all-women’s Evolution 2 event this July. Bella stated “I did not confirm the Evolution pay-per-view. The thing I was saying that I was going to be part of in July — I just need to kill this because I see it everywhere. I’m in a movie. I can’t announce it yet but it’s a movie that I’m in in July. I didn’t want to say the movie part, but now I feel like I have to say it because everyone thinks I’m confirming Evolution. It’s a movie I’m in, which I’m excited for everyone to see because it’s a great character and it was a lot of fun to play. I can’t wait to talk about it.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with the What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon podcast, Dominik Mysterio revealed that he had filmed a skit of him pulling out a glock Arn Anderson style during his feud with Rey Mysterio that never aired. McMahon stated “To see you in the ring and standing next to your dad, when times were better, and to know what that feels like, to play off each other and all the skits you were doing and the spoofs you did. I saw some pretty fun ones that I think were only sent to a handful of people. I was not the one they were sent to, I was shown.” Mysterio responded stating “That’s a good one. I’ll do my best explaining it. We were supposed to be threatening someone and saying that we were going to be ready for this match. I said, ‘You better be ready or I’m gonna be ready,’ and I pulled out my Glock, Arn-style, and pointed at the camera. Then the money came out. It was a whole situation. I guess more people have seen it than I anticipated.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
As noted before, Omos has been absent from WWE since the April 5, 2024 episode of WWE SmackDown. In a recent interview with WhatCulture Wrestling, Omos provided an update on his status with WWE stating that he has just been waiting for the call to make his official in-ring return. Omos stated “I’m just waiting. I had fun in Japan and I’m just patiently waiting.” Omos also gave his thoughts about his goals for his wrestling career in 2025. Omos stated “To be honest, man, I’m just here to dominate. I’m just ready to come back and dominate in the ring again. There’s nothing that brings me more joy than being in the wrestling ring. So whenever that happens, I’m just ready and excited to get back in there.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
The official Twitter account for The Queen of the Ring film recently announced that Charlotte Flair was originally planned to portray the role of June Byers prior to those plans being changed due to issues involving then WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon. It was stated “The incredible Charlotte Flair training with our lead Emily at OVW in the days leading up to the start of filming. WWE Studios had submitted her for the movie and she was originally cast as June Byers, but we were told Vince McMahon then personally pulled her out because we were a small independent film, not a major studio release. Charlotte played a real part in training Emily for the role and we are forever grateful for her involvement. Luckily, Kailey “Kamille” Latimer was available last minute and took on the role of June, delivering a truly stellar performance. It was her first time acting and she did all of her own stunts. Had Kailey not stepped up when and how she did, who knows what would have happened. She saved the day and we love her so much! Truly a superstar. We will share more behind the scenes soon.“
