Tony Khan Comments on Importance of Double or Nothing to AEW & Holding This Year’s Event in Arizona
The Phoenix New Times held a recent interview with AEW CEO Tony Khan. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about AEW holding this year’s Double or Nothing event in Phoenix, Arizona.
“AEW Double or Nothing” is really important to the wrestlers here, the staff and — most importantly — to AEW fans, because it’s the first event we ever did. Six years ago, we held our very debut event with “AEW Double or Nothing” in 2019. It’s a classic pay-per-view event and it set the stage for, I guess, everything that’s happened since that we’ve been able to do the past six years. So it means a lot to us. And wrestling fans in Arizona have been great to AEW. It means a lot to bring our first-ever event and the six-year anniversary of the company itself to a great wrestling city.”
Will Ospreay Comments on His Belief AEW Can Be on Top of the Wrestling Industry One Day
A recent episode of The #JJRBTS (rehashed) podcast featured Will Ospreay as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Ospreay’s thoughts about why he was a fan of TNA Wrestling while growing up and his reasons for signing with AEW.
“I like the counter-culture stuff. I don’t like going for the big thing. I like going for the underdog. I think that’s why I signed with AEW in the first place is because they are the underdog, they are the people coming from the ground up and are the people who enjoy giving fan service. When I first came in here, I wanted to make this place the be all, end all. I want to sing from the high heavens that this is the best professional wrestling on the planet. I respect WWE and what they’re doing now. They are filling houses and doing so well, but bell-to-bell, you’re not going to find better wrestling than AEW.”
In response to comments from the host about how AEW fans feel like ECW fans, Ospreay gave his thoughts about his belief that AEW can be on the top of the wrestling industry one day.
“It’s respect for the art. I feel like they understand the art form behind it and how hard it is, and they appreciate it, so they allow their voices to be heard, and they are supporting us. I want that support to spread. It’s going to take time and be a slow process, but one of these days, we’re going to be on top. It’s not just me, it’s Swerve (Strickland), it’s Hangman (Page), it’s (Jon) Moxley, it’s MJF, it’s the Hurt Syndicate, we’re all firing on all cylinders and we’re all creating this animal right now and at one point, we’re going to be undeniable that we are the friggin’ best.”
