As noted before, WWE had worked on plans in 2023 for the potential launch of a new NXT Europe brand that would replace their NXT UK brand that was eventually shut down in late 2022. WWE is currently expected to launch their new NXT Europe brand later this year.
Fightful Select’s Corey Brennan reported that European talent spoken to who participated at this past March’s tryouts in the United Kingdom stated that they were not told further details about the plans for NXT Europe beyond that it is “still coming.” Brennan reported that there has been no indication that the tryouts were connected to WWE’s NXT Europe plans and one former NXT UK talent stated that the “still coming” update has been the party line from WWE whenever they are asked about the project. Another former NXT UK talent spoken to reportedly stated that “they will believe it when they see it” in regards to launch of the new brand.
Several European promoters spoken to reportedly stated that they believe that the recent movement from WWE could have something to do with AEW working to establish a foothold in the U.K. between the prior years All In events at Wembley Stadium and this year’s upcoming AEW Dynamite taping and Forbidden Door event in London. Several promoters spoken to reportedly also stated that they are hesitant about the notion of NXT Europe taking talent away from them but others spoken to stated that they are firm that the idea of talent being signed is not “the end of the world” for their promotions. One promoter spoken to stated that the region was able to produce new stars after NXT UK and the COVID-19 pandemic and believe that the same would happen again if the current top stars go to NXT Europe.
In regards to European talent, those spoken to reportedly had a generally positive reaction in terms of how the new brand could elevate the regions stars and provide signed talent with more money. Several talents spoken to reportedly stated that NXT Europe would need to pay more than NXT UK contracts did due to talent under the previous deals were encouraged to have a second job.
Several talents spoken to, particularly from the U.K. and France, reportedly stated that they currently do not believe that NXT Europe will be launching in the near future.
