Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston reported that San Diego city government recently earmarked a budget of $5 million for WWE’s upcoming Survivor Series 2025 event on November 29th at the Petco Park.
Thurston reported that WWE’s event was secured by the city through the imitative by the San Diefgo Tourism Marketing District (SDTMD).
The SDTMD reportedly initially approved $650,000 to go towards securing the event with WWE.
Thurston reported that he was able to obtain documents related to this process and discovered an additional $4.25 million in added expenses that had been requested by the San Diego Padres for the event to be hosted at their home ballpark.
Thurston also reported that these records continually refer to a total budget of $5 million by the city for WWE’s upcoming event. This figure reportedly would make this year’s Survivor Series event one of richest for known location fees for a WWE event in the United States, only being this year’s SummerSlam event in New Jersey ($7,125,250), WrestleMania 38 in Dallas-Arlington ($5,198,205), and WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas ($5 million plus an additional $4.2 million in tax credits).
The records reportedly also stated that the SDTMD currently believes that WWE’s Survivor Series event will lead to 18,000 hotel rooms being booked and $3.6 million for lodging-based business in the city.
In an official statement to Wrestlenomics, a representative for the City of San Diego stated that mentions of the city on WWE programming was a consideration but not a determining factor for the decision to host this year’s event.
“Global media coverage that specifically showcases the City of San Diego as a desirable destination is a consideration but not a determiner. Hotel room night revenue during slower periods in hotel occupancy is the primary consideration when awarding grants.”
