WWE Reportedly Interested in Signing Leyla Hirsch for Non-Wrestling Role

WWE reportedly is currently interested in potentially signing former AEW and Ring of Honor talent Leyla Hirsch to a non-wrestling role, according to Fightful Select.

It was reported that their sources stated that WWE officials recently reached out to Hirsch about the possibility of her trying out for a referee role in the company.

Those spoken to within WWE reportedly stated that internal discussions about contacting Hirsch began around mid-June for a potential non-wrestling role.

It was reported that it is currently not known if Hirsch had accepted the offer or if a tryout had already taken place.

WWE referee Jessika Carr had started out as a wrestler for her career in the indies before transitioning to working as a referee when she joined WWE in 2017. Carr most recently returned to in-ring action for WWE’s EVOLVE brand under the ring name of Kalyx earlier this year.

In a recent Denver Fan Expo event, John Cena gave his thoughts about his interest in potentially facing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in a match for one final time before the end of his current retirement tour. Cena stated “Gosh, fantasy booking. For those who are not inside baseball, fantasy booking is when you take an idea in your head and you’re like, man, it would be cool if… That’s what I’m hearing here. Man, it would be cool if John Cena could fight The Rock one more time. That, to me, that would be cool. I’ve survived and kept a level head over 25 years in the WWE by not setting expectations, by showing up every single day, doing what I’m told and asked to do it to the best of my ability. Where I ask for freedom, where I ask for creative expression is not in the selection of my opponent. It is in the process of how we put forth the work to you guys. That way I can be accountable for all my failures. You guys say I buried the Nexus. I got to shoulder that cross forever because that’s me. But there are some wins along the way. There are some people that’s like, man, you’re doing your best work now, and it seems like you’re in a different place and all that. And I can live that triumph as well. I don’t like to choose opponents because a lot of times that doesn’t work out. What I like to do is get a plan and say, ‘hey, well, can I, as the artist, can I be creative with the plan?’ I’ve earned enough trust that they’ll they’ll let me do some stupid stuff, and I appreciate it.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with Fightful, TNA talent Mike Santana gave his thoughts about the process that led to his first appearance in WWE’s NXT at this past May’s Battleground 2025 event. Santana stated “It’s definitely a rewarding feeling for sure because it validates all the hard work and validates that first initial thought of like, ‘Yo, I could do this. People might not see it now, but they will.’ That’s the thing too, I was talking earlier with someone and I was like, ‘I made a plan for myself and I’ve been following that plan step for step and it’s been working.’ Also, when putting this plan together, I didn’t put a timeline on it. I didn’t say, ‘Alright, by this year, I want to do this.’ I was like, I’m going to put this plan together, and however long it takes is how long it takes, and I’m going to do what I got to do, but I’m going to stick to my guns as much as possible and go forward with this plan. Also, I shared the plan with maybe four people and to have three of those people hit me up constantly and go, ‘It’s crazy how you’ve hit everything on that plan,’ it’s pretty cool. But going back to the WWE thing, it’s a good feeling to feel wanted, of course. Especially when coming from what I’ve come from and having done what I’ve done, it’s definitely a good feeling. Honestly, bro, I feel like I’m just getting started. There’s just so much more. I’m still young, thankfully, and I’m still healthy and I’m good to go.” Santana also gave his thoughts about how he only found out about his appearance just a couple days in advance. Santana stated “So I was told maybe a couple days. It just happened so fast. It was like, ‘Hey, you got a couple days. This is what’s happening.’ But I didn’t know like the full-on plan. I just knew that I was going to Battleground and then it snowballed from there. I got that call. They told me what was up and I was like, ‘Let’s go, another day at work.’ That’s also how I looked at it. I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m going to WWE and it’s a major deal, it’s my first time walking through those doors.’ Hell, I said it in my very first time in front of a WWE camera. It’s taken me 16 years to get to this point, but at the same time, I treated it like another day at work.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
