Josh Barnett Comments on Goldberg Was Once Planned for Bloodsport Bushido Match
A recent episode of The Ariel Helwani Show podcast featured MMA fighter and indies wrestler Josh Barnett as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Barnett’s thoughts about the original plan for his co-promoted Bloodsport Bushido event in June of 2024 in Japan was for the main event to be a match between him and WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg.
“When we did Bloodsport Bushido in Japan, the main event was me vs. Jon Moxley. In the creation of the event, the original main event was going to be me vs. Bill Goldberg.
Me and Bill came to an agreement about it and we were trying to make it happen, but at the end of the day, it wasn’t something we could put together. We agreed on pretty much all the necessary items. He’s a very important man with a lot of obligations and contracts and all sorts of stuff. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make that match happen.”
Barnett also gave his thoughts about if he is still interested in doing a potential Bloodsport match against Goldberg.
“I don’t know. Anytime Bill decides that is something he wants to do, I’m there. He’s had an incredible career. Very lengthy, very storied. It would depend on him.”

Josh Barnett recently announced one new match for the card of Game Changer Wrestling’s Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XIV event on August 2nd in Rutherford, New Jersey.
This new match announced was a singles match of Charlie Dempsey vs. Dominic Garrini.
