WWE Reportedly Planning for AAA to Become New Developmental Brand
As noted before, WWE announced this past April that they signed an acquisition deal for Lucha Libre AAA.
SuperLuchas’ Ernesto Ocampo reported that his sources stated that WWE’s acquisition of AAA will become official on August 1st.
Ocampo reported that WWE officials currently have plans to open a new WWE Performance Center in Mexico in the second half of 2026.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that WWE officials currently want AAA to be a different style than NXT or WWE due to them trying to market it as something different for the American audience.
Meltzer reported that WWE officials want AAA talent to all learn the American style and lean to do English promos due to them currently viewing AAA as being a new developmental brand similar to NXT UK and upcoming NXT Europe. Meltzer reported that the idea being AAA doing their own stuff and holding their own shows but the goal is to get the AAA talents to NXT and later WWE.
Meltzer also confirmed that WWE is currently planning to open a new Performance Center in Mexico but for it to just be a Performance Center for training and not one that also includes an arena like NXT’s Performance Center in Orlando. Meltzer reported that this new Performance Center would have both American and Mexican instructors. The Mexican coaches reportedly are currently expected to go to Orlando to learn how they do it in WWE in order to teach that style and how they want them to do it for the talent the Performance Center in Mexico.
WWE Reportedly Considering Plans for AAA Mega Title Reign for Dominik Mysterio
WrestleVotes Radio reported that their sources stated that WWE officials are currently “strongly” considering plans of putting the AAA Mega Championship on current WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio.
It was reported that these potential plans stemmed from Mysterio making a surprise appearance at last week’s AAA Alianzas television tapings. This appearance featured Mysterio attacking Dragon Lee and current AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo and demanding that he be included in the title match at AAA’s upcoming Triplemania XXXIII event on August 16th.
It was reported that the idea of AAA’s top title being featured on Netflix every week is something that has been appealing to both WWE and AAA officials.
