As noted before, this past Saturday’s AEW Collision show at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania featured a video teasing the upcoming debut of a new wrestler named Clon in AEW. This video was notable for featuring a corrupted evil-looking version of Hologram being shown. This new wrestler has been speculated online for a long while to be Mexican Lucha wrestler Arez.
TheCubsFan reported that his sources confirmed that the identity of this new “El Clon” wrestler is Arez.
It was reported that many people had seemed to figure this out immediately even though there were not any hints and speculated that Arez and Aramis, identity of Hologram, being linked in people’s minds would be the likely reason due to most people in the United States would have been introduced to both of them wrestling each other in places such as Game Changer Wrestling and Major League Wrestling.
It was reported that AEW has had interest in Arez dating back to their trademark filing for “El Clon” in September of 2024.
It was also reported that AEW making the decision to finally bring in Arez was due to WWE had been interested in potentially signing Arez and wanted to bring him back to Lucha Libre AAA. Arez reportedly informed AEW officials that he had another offer and they needed to make a final decision on him. AEW reportedly made their own offer to Arez and he picked them over WWE.
TheCubsFan reported that this is the first known instance of a Mexican free agent picking AEW over WWE since WWE acquired AAA this past April.
TheCubsFan also reported that Arez had suffered a foot injury at an event this past Saturday but he is currently only expected to be sidelined for a few days.
