Wall Street Journal reported that their sources stated that Paramount Skydance is currently preparing a major bid to potentially acquire Warner Bros Discovery, current media broadcast partner of AEW.
It was reported that this bid is backed by the Ellison family, who own Oracle Corporation.
It was also reported that Paramount’s bid is for the entire company including WBD’s cable and movie studio.
This would be the second acquisition deal by Skydance in recent months after they had purchased Paramount Global for $8.4 billion several weeks ago.
Reuters reported that analysts currently believe that any acquisition of WBD would require significant private financing. It was reported that a merger between Paramount Skydance and WBD would likely face antitrust scrutiny.
This potential acqusition deal would also put AEW and TKO Group, parent company of WWE and UFC, under the same umbrella following Paramount’s recent media rights deal with TKO for UFC.
