As noted before, Tuesday’s WWE NXT show at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida featured Thea Hail defeating Blake Monroe to become the new NXT Women’s North American Champion. This match was notable for the finish to the match appearing to have been botched and the referee making the three count despite Monroe trying to kick out. This quickly led to online speculation of Monroe might have had the wind taken out of her after getting hit by Hail’s springboard senton finisher.
Fightful Select reported that their sources confirmed that the finish to the match was botched and Hail winning was not the original plan. Those spoken to reportedly stated that Monroe was always meant to retain her title and this title change caused a “backstage scramble” over NXT officials being caught off guard from the unexpected result.
It was reported that Hail’s surprise title victory also caused issues due to there were creative plans in place with Hail not winning the title which led to those plans being immediately changed afterwards.
It was also reported that the surprise title change also affected several people’s creative plans that had been set for the next couple of weeks. NXT officials had already taken steps as early as during Tuesday’s show to make those creative adjustment to their plans.
In regards to any potential backstage heat, it was reported that nobody has been blamed yet for the situation that took place over the unplanned title change on the show.
