Gunther Comments on Goldberg Being “Way More Limited” Than John Cena For Their Retirement Matches
A recent episode of TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast featured Gunther as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Gunther’s thoughts about the differences between Goldberg and John Cena for their retirement matches against him.
“Well, very different situation, I think, because Goldberg was way more limited than John was and John was just a better wrestler overall his whole career. That’s not like a dig to Goldberg, he didn’t get famous by putting on in-ring master classes. That was never his thing. So, it was a very different situation.
But also the magnitude of it. Obviously, Goldberg is a big name but it’s not comparable to what John Cena represents, and the following he has, and what he carries with him, and the connection that people have to him. So, it was hard to compare.”
Gunther also gave his thoughts about his belief about how WWE fans will react when it comes time for his retirement match.
“In 10 years or so, they’re going to stand there and cry over me losing my last match. It’s what they do.”

John Cena Comments on His Heel Turn Moment at WWE Elimination Chamber 2025
A recent episode of the What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes podcast featured John Cena as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Cena’s thoughts about his surprise heel turn moment at this past March’s WWE Elimination Chamber 2025 event and WWE’s mentality for the moment.
“This is how the business works. I know that this is forever the critical discussion outside of the confines of the people who say, ‘I want you to do this,’ that own the thing. They wanted to make Elimination Chamber a moment. I get it. The business is about making moments. There is nothing wrong with that. You don’t always need a nine-month trajectory. You can understand, ‘We have a ton of eyes on tonight. Let’s do something impactful, and then you as artists can run through the maze and figure it out.’ In February, they wanted to make a moment and they asked me to be part of it. ‘Holy hell, what a challenge to me creatively.’ The loss of that good side at all costs, to get that, was easy to explain. When we all talked about it, the one detail, ‘I’ll do whatever the fuck y’all want, just stay on the face for longer than you think.’ That’s the one thing I said. ‘This is going to feel weird. Just stay.”
