As noted before, former WWE and WCW wrestler and current WWE Vice President of Global Talent Development William Regal recently made comments on Twitter about his concerns with wrestlers getting dropped on their heads during their matches and brought up his own past history with neck issues in his wrestling career as a warning to other wrestlers for the well-being of their future.
The War Raiders’ Ivar responded to Regal’s comments earlier today on Twitter bringing up his own recent neck issues stating that it was a “life altering” moment for him and posted photos of his injured neck. Ivar had suffered two neck injuries in September of 2020 and April of 2024 and underwent neck surgery in September of 2020.
“Life altering. There was a before and an after. Man, I wish I could remember the before.”

Piper Niven also responded to Regal’s comments earlier today on Twitter stating that the line between “I feel fine” and “I just want to feel ok again” is horrifically thin. Niven has been out of action for WWE since this past August due to an undisclosed injury that is believed to be a neck injury.
“The line between “But I feel fine!” and “I just want to feel ok again” Is horrifically thin and you have zero idea how close you are teetering on the edge of it.
Please take heed my darlings.”

AEW talent Kenny Omega also responded to Regal’s comments. While he brought up the recent online criticisms issues with Regal only making his comments after an AEW event and he would not have done the same for WWE events, Omega thanked Regal and stated that his message remains a positive one and tribalism should not come into play over neck safety concerns in wrestling.
“Regardless of timing or perceived intent, the general message from Mr. Regal remains a positive one. Tribalism, whataboutism, and other ‘isms’ aren’t needed here.
Safety often takes a back seat when a wrestler is locked in and actively chasing the dragon. We all sometimes need a voice from afar to tether us back to reality and to tell us that the risks have consequences. The odds aren’t in our favor and none of us will walk away unscathed.
This isn’t company vs company or wrestler vs wrestler. This is about a general awareness and a knowing that the cost of what we do is directly related to the amount and severity of risk(s) that we take.
Keeping that in mind, as athletes, we aren’t all created equally. As responsible adults, we need to be realistic and know our own physical limits. I’d have to give my head a shake if I wanted to try a twisting shooting star, but I’d never say a word to Pac.
I look at this all as great food for thought. Something to always be cognizant of. It shouldn’t be about making it a competition.
Thank you, Mr. Regal.”
