Backstage Update on Stephanie Vaquer Ankle Injury Angle at Jan. 5th WWE RAW Show

As noted before, this past Monday’s WWE RAW show in Brooklyn, New York featured WWE Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer announcing that she had suffered an ankle injury. Vaquer was then attacked by Raquel Rodriguez in the ring and afterwards backstage in a separate attack. This quickly lead to online speculation of Vaquer’s actual health and injury situation.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that Vaquer is currently dealing with a legitimate injury but it is not severe enough to warrant an extended break for recovery. Johnson reported that there is also currently no expectation within WWE that Vaquer will need to vacate her title and a new champion needing to be crowned.

Johnson reported that the current expectation is one Vaquer is medically cleared, her storyline with Rodriguez on the show will transition into a championship program between the two. This approach reportedly keeps the feud momentum intact without rushing her return to the ring.

WWE Denied Motion To Dismiss Lawsuit Over Alleged Ring Tear Down Injury Incident

Post Wrestling and Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston and Jason Ounpraseuth reported that a Connecticut judge on Tuesday rejected WWE’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit against the company in regards to a slip-and-fall incident involving a contracted ring crew worker.

Post Wrestling reported that Teodoro Troche filed the lawsuit against WWE in May 22, 2025 claiming that he had slipped and fell on debris on the floor while holding a ring post upright during a ring tear down after WWE’s SmackDown show on March 29, 2024 in Uncasville. Troche claimed he suffered multiple injuries while working as a contractor from Complete Labor & Staffing for WWE’s show.

In his lawsuit, Troche claimed that after he slipped, the ring post struck his face knocking out his teeth and landing on his right hand crushing it. Troche claimed that the injuries he suffered “required him to be transported to a Level 1 trauma hospital, where he needed multiple surgeries, long-term rehabilitation, and treatments.”

Post Wrestling reported that Troche’s lawsuit is against Event Services LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of WWE that the company uses to operate its live events. Troche alleges that his injuries were the result from “Event Services LLC’s negligence, including failure to inspect and clean the arena floor for debris, failure to warn workers of hazards, and permitting staff to handle heavy steel equipment in unsafe conditions.”

Post Wrestling reported that WWE had filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit on September 22, 2025 and argued that the Mohegan Gaming Disputes Court would be a more appropriate venue. WWE also argued that the plaintiff had already filed an earlier lawsuit on Jan. 9, 2025, against the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority in that court and based on the same alleged incident. WWE stated that related claims involving Event Services LLC are already pending there.

Post Wrestling also reported that Troche had filed an objection to the motion arguing that “Connecticut courts have a history of exercising jurisdiction over negligence actions that occurred on tribal reservations in Connecticut, citing prior court cases.” Troche’s objection also stated that the plaintiff’s ability to seek damages is limited under the Mohegan Code.

Judge Scott Chadwick reportedly denied WWE’s motion and stated in his ruling that the tribal court does not offer jury trials and limits potential damages while Connecticut courts do not. Chadwick ruled that keeping the case in Connecticut “will best serve the convenience of the parties and the ends of justice.”
