As noted before, last week’s TNA Impact! AMC premiere show in Garland, Texas featured Daria Berenato, former Sonya Deville in WWE, making her official debut in TNA Wrestling. Berenato was revealed to be going under the new ring name of Daria Rae and was also revealed as the newest authority figure in TNA.
Denise Salcedo held a recent interview with Raw. One of the topics discussed included Rae’s thoughts about the process that led to her signing and official debut with TNA.
“I took a much-needed break, and then as we rounded the end of the year, I just had an epiphany. I looked at my wife and I was like, ‘Babe, I think I want to go back to wrestling in some capacity.’ And she was like, ‘Yeah, I think you should.’ So that was kind of it. I had been talking to TNA kind of from the moment I left [WWE]. Because TNA is owned by the same company that Invicta FC the MMA company is owned by — Anthem Sports. So I had met [TNA President] Carlos [Silva] at an Invicta event. We had talked back then, and I just wasn’t ready then. And then I was. So I reached out and I was like, ‘Let’s do this.’ And it happened to be the day before they were going to announce the AMC TV deal.”
Rae also gave her thoughts about if she is interested in a potential in-ring return in the future.
“Well, I don’t know. I really like wearing suits,” she told Salcedo. “But if you were to ask me a year ago if you would ever see me in heels, I would have told you no. So anything can happen, I’ll leave you at that.
In a separate recent interview with the Busted Open Radio podcast, Rae revealed that her contract with TNA is for six months in length.
“I signed a six-month deal. I plan on seeing it through. I’m having a lot of fun. Everything is going great so far. As long as it is a continuously mutual beneficial situation, meaning I’m adding value and I feel good about what I’m getting in return, then I don’t see why it wouldn’t continue long-term.”
