Chris Jericho Comments on Ageism Issues in Pro Wrestling

Soundsphere Magazine held a recent interview with Chris Jericho. One of the topics discussed included Jericho’s thoughts about ageism issues in the pro wrestling industry.

“It’s never too late. Ageism does exist, and you can’t worry about it. Your age is your age, but you can’t worry about it, it’s not a death sentence to be in your 50s, right or your 60s and 70s, there’s still time to do things. Maybe you’re not going to have a career like The Rolling Stones, but you can still do it – write a song, record a song, audition for parts – all that stuff you can still do! The biggest detriment to success that we have is ourselves! Why not (do it)? Someone’s got to do it, so why don’t you?”

Jericho also gave his thoughts about the importance of rejuvenating yourself in wrestling and entertainment.

“Reinvention is important at any stage of your career, because you want to keep people excited and motivated about what you’re doing. The [Rolling] Stones last record, ‘Hackney Diamonds’ was great. Why wouldn’t The Stones release a new album? Because they’re artists, and that’s what artists do. Keeping things fresh and exciting is something I believe in wholeheartedly. There’s nothing wrong with having tinges, but you still want to create new things as well, so you’re not just a nostalgia act.”

Former WWE wrestler Marc Mero recent posted on Twitter a royalty pay statement he received from WWE in 2019. Mero statedI’ve been asked many times what wrestlers actually make in royalties from the WWE, so let me give you a real example. I left the WWE years ago, and more than 20 years later, in 2019, I came across an old royalty statement. When you look at how much money many wrestlers help generate versus how little they’re actually paid, it’s honestly hard to believe. On this statement, even after being out of wrestling for over two decades, I was still partly responsible for $39,590.81 in revenue. My royalty payment for that? $71.47. That’s the reality for a lot of wrestlers. We helped build the brand, the characters, and the moments fans still watch today, yet the compensation rarely reflects the value that was created.

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley provided an update on Thursday on Instagram about the current progress of his weight loss journey stating that he is now down 100 pounds less than his all-time peak weight of 372 and his goal of reaching 250 pounds by the time of his birthday this year. Foley statedFOLEY DROPS 100 LBS! It took two years, but I’m officially down 100 pounds from my all-time high of 372 pounds in January, 2024. I actually thought last year my high was 379 and I hit my goal when I hit 279 last January…. But little did I know I was 7 pounds short of my 100 lb goal one year ago. Yes, I had some help in the form of Wegovy, which helped reduce the constant cravings…. But I made wiser eating choices, stopped eating when I was starting to get full – instead of when I was stuffed – and did a little bit of that @ddpyoga as well. I’ve managed to keep the weight off since last year and actually hit my goal….finally! I am moving around so much better, I’m not short of wind after walking up hills and stairs, and one day may even take my shirt off at the beach. Perhaps @thetommydreamer and I can have an epic stipulation match: “Loser takes off t-shirt” Thanks to all of you who have provided encouragement along the way, and taking the time to tell me you notice the difference. Next stop, 250 lbs by my birthday!
