Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that businesses in the Las Vegas area have been recently told that they will be unable to broadcast WWE’s WrestleMania 42 event at their establishments even if they pay a license fee.
It was reported that those informed have been told that this new policy has been put in place for businesses within 50 miles of the event in order to increase ticket sales for WrestleMania 42.
One source familiar with the situation reportedly stated that they feel that this new policy is undermining the notion of WrestleMania coming to Las Vegas in order to boost the city’s tourism industry. This new policy would negatively affect wrestling talent and personalities who book WrestleMania watchalong parties at local establishments that take place on a yearly basis for WrestleMania.
One venue representative source spoken to reportedly stated that while some smaller establishments might try to bypass this new rule in Las Vegas, they would be at risk of affecting their business in broadcasting UFC events which brings in a lot of money in the city.
In regards to the potential reason for this new policy, Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE had sold and distributed around 36,964 tickets for WrestleMania Saturday on April 18th and 36,737 tickets for WrestleMania Sunday on April 19th as of this past Thursday. Meltzer reported that both shows are currently lagging compared to last year’s WrestleMania 41 at this point, which were around 44,000 tickets for each show.
