Backstage Update on Danhausen’s Expired AEW Contract, Internal Reactions To His WWE Debut at Elimination Chamber 2026, & WWE’s Current Plans For Him

As noted before, former AEW talent Danhausen made his surprise official WWE debut at this past Saturday’s Elimination Chamber 2026 event in Chicago, Illinois. Danhausen was revealed to be inside the mystery crate that WWE had been teasing in recent weeks that would have its contents revealed at the event. Danhausen’s signing with WWE was something that was not a unanimous decision within the company.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that their sources stated that WWE’s interest in Danhausen had circulated for quite some time within the company and he was always planned to be the person revealed from the mystery crate storyline once it had started.

In regards to Danhausen’s expired contract with AEW, Sapp reported that those spoken to confirmed it had expired on February 28th

Those spoken to within WWE reportedly stated that the expectation was always for Danhausen to keep his ring name and gimmick.

In regards to the internal reaction for Danhausen’s official debut appearance at this past Saturday’s Elimination Chamber 2026 event, one source spoken to reportedly stated that they felt the mixed reaction from fans in Chicago only added to Danhausen’s character’s offbeat appeal. Another source spoken to reportedly questioned why WWE would debut him in that fashion after the long running joke of what a “box debut” means from Bruce Prichard’s Something to Wrestle podcast.

In regards to WWE’s current plans for Danhausen, Sapp reported that he is currently expected to be utilized across WWE’s brands including potential appearances in AAA if needed.

Sapp also reported that Danhausen’s upcoming scheduled indies bookings are currently expected to be pulled as WWE takes full control of his work schedule.
