As noted before, former NJPW talent David Finlay made a surprise appearance at Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in El Paso, Texas and reunited with his War Dogs buddies Clark Connors and Gabe Kidd, who are now known under the new group name of The Dogs in AEW. Finlay, Connors, and Kidd’s signings with AEW were officially announced afterwards by AEW CEO Tony Khan on social media.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources stated that Finlay’s deal with AEW came together in the last week. Sapp reported that Finlay was looking to move on from NJPW and wanted to work in the United States for the future of his wrestling career.
In regards to Finlay choosing AEW over WWE, Bodyslam.net’s Cory Hayes reported that his sources stated that the reason was due to the deal that he was being offered. Hayes reported that those spoken to within WWE stated that Finlay was offered a deal to begin in NXT and was worth NXT developmental money. Finlay reportedly wanted main roster type money but WWE was not willing to budge on their offer. This reportedly led to Finlay deciding to join AEW instead and reunite with Kidd and Connors.
