WWE SmackDown kicks off with highlights of last week’s contract signing between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.

Pre-show Arrivals

Live in the arena, we cut to the commentary team. We cut to Jelly Roll arriving at the arena but WWE officials are running outside. We see a car crash outside. Drew McIntyre pulls Jacob Fatu from the car windshield and begins hitting him with right hands and slamming him onto the hood of his car. WWE officials grab Drew and break it up.

In-Ring: Drew McIntyre, Nick Aldis, Jacob Fatu

Back in the arena, out comes Drew McIntyre. He says the only place he should be wrestling is the main event of WrestleMania and that was taken from him. Drew gets in the ring and says he is there to fight. Out comes Nick Aldis with security and he asks Drew what is wrong. He says every opportunity was given to Drew and he still acts like a maniac. He says Drew talks about being on the way to WrestleMania, the only way he is on his way to is unemployment. Drew says he tried to quit but they would love that. He says he has a better idea. He says Nick’s son Donovan should be ashamed of his corporate stooge of a father.

Out comes Jacob Fatu and Drew throws him into the barricade. Drew grabs Fatu but Fatu throws him into the ring post and into the ring steps. Fatu throws Drew over the announce table. He places Drew onto the announce table but WWE officials break it up. Fatu walks through the fans and back runs back towards the table. Fatu jumps onto the barricade and onto Drew through the table.

WWE Tag Team Championship
R-Truth & Damian Priest vs. The MFTs (JC Mateo & Tama Tonga) (c)

The bell rings and we are under way. Mateo and Priest start the match. Priest with a slam followed by a shoulder tackle. Tonga Loa gets on the ring apron and that distracts the referee.

Back from commercial, Mateo with right hands followed by a standing moon sault. He goes for the cover but Priest kicks out. Mateo runs towards Priest but Priest with a kick. R-Truth is tagged in and he lands right hands on Mateo. In comes Tama Tonga and Priest but they fight to the outside of the ring. R-Truth with the STF but Solo distracts the referee. Tala Tonga pulls R-Truth and chokeslams him on the ring apron.

The lights go out and come back on. Out come The Wyatt Sicks and they fight with the MFTs. R-Truth with a side kick onto Mateo. Priest with a clothesline on Tama Tonga. R-Truth with the AA on Mateo. He goes for the cover and gets the pin.

Winner: R-Truth & Damian Priest via Pinfall to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions.

Backstage: The Bella Twins, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss

The Bella Twins were interviewed about their tag title match against The Irresistable Forces later tonight. Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss interrupted while they ate ice cream. “Charlexa” called the Bellas selfish for jumping the line when it came to taking on Nia Jax and Lash Legend for the Womens’ Tag Titles. Brie and Nikki responded by saying that they’ll show Flair and Bliss how legends get it done, as they left while stealing Bliss’s spoon.

Backstage: Candice LeRae, Johnny Gargano, Danhausen, Motor City Machine Guns

Elsewhere, Candice LeRae was still with the ever-despondent Johnny Gargano, who was lying on a production crate. Danhausen appeared out of nowhere in true Danhausen fashion and offered his help with Gargano’s plight — on the condition that LeRae give him $20. LeRae gave the dough to Danhausen, who then vanished.

Backstage: Sami Zayn, Trick Williams

Sami Zayn was asked by Cathy Kelley about what happened with Cody Rhodes last week. Zayn said he had a match against Aleister Black tonight, but he had a piece to say about Rhodes. He said that Rhodes tries to be a good person. Last week, Rhodes ended the night on a stretcher and bloodied, but Randy Orton ended the night with the Undisputed WWE Title in his hand. That seemed to shake Zayn to his core about what he believed in. Zayn was interrupted by Trick Williams, who talked trash to him, as he said that if he had time, he’d check out Zayn’s match with Black later tonight.

Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer & Axiom) vs. The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley)

The bell rings and we are under way. Shelley and Frazer start the match. Frazer with a drop kick. Axiom is tagged in and as is Sabin. The Motor City Machine Guns double team Axiom. They hit Frazer off the ring apron. Axiom with a right hand onto Shelley. Frazer gets in and he super kicks Sabin.

Back from commercial, Frazer with a splash off the top rope onto Sabin. He goes for the cover but Shelley breaks it up. Axiom is tagged in and they double team Sabin. Axiom goes for the cover but Sabin kicks out. Axiom places Sabin on the top rope but Sabin with a cross body. Shelley is tagged in and they double team Frazer who gets in the ring. Both teams in the ring and the Motor City Machine Guns are thrown to the outside. Fraxiom with suicide dives onto The Motor City Machine Guns. Frazer throws Sagbin into the ring. Axiom climbs the top rope but Shelley pulls Axiom down. Frazer goes for the cover on Sabin but Sabin kicks out. Frazer leans onto the ropes and out comes Candice LeRae who hits him with a right hand. Sabin rolls him up and gets the pin.

Winner: The Motor City Machine Guns via Pinfall.

Parking Lot: Randy Orton

We cut to the outside and we see Randy Orton.

A recap of CM Punk and Roman Reigns’ faceoff from this past Monday’s Raw was shown, which included Punk popping Reigns with a punch for being called “old”.

In-Ring: Randy Orton

Back from commercial, Randy Orton’s music hits and out he comes. He pulls a dented chair from the time keeper’s area and grabs a microphone. Orton places the chair in the ring and has a seat on it. Orton says for years, when his entrance music hit, everyone would sing along. What a feeling that is, the love that they show him and he tries to return it. He gives the fans high fives, he signs the action figures, replicas, titles. He will see a kid on his birthday and wish him a happy birthday. The love that he shows them, that he gets back, that puts a smile on his face. And that smile is the emptiest feeling that he has felt in his entire life.

Orton says he has been doing this a long time, longer than most but the reality is that nothing lasts for ever. He doesn’t want his legacy to be the smiles that he puts on their faces, he wants his legacy to be how many World Championship gold he has put around his waist. He says not too long ago, he won the Elimination Chamber and he was going to fight Drew McIntyre for the title. And he knew that he can be who he needed to be to beat Drew. But when Cody won, he didn’t know if he can be who he needs to be to beat Cody. He says he loves Cody like a brother but last week, Cody took that burden off his chest. Cody took that weight off his shoulders when he told him that he needed him to be the best version he can be. He needs him to be the viper, to listen to the voices. The problem with listening to the voices is that he is not always in control. Sometimes things can happen, sometimes he gets hurt, just like anyone else but he needs that killer instinct. He needs that to add number 15 to his legacy.

He looks at the WrestleMania sign and says that he will do it with the three most dangerous letters in all of entertainment, RKO. Orton says he hears voices in his head, they council him, they understand, they talk to me and they tell me that I am going to beat Cody Rhodes. He says the voices tell him that he will beat Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship. They tell him he is going to beat Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship and he is going to do it at the main event of WrestleMania.

Backstage: Randy Orton, Los Garza, Rey Fenix, Apollo Crews, Zack Ryder

Back from commercial, Randy Orton is walking backstage and he stops in front of Matt Cardona. He asks Orton what that was last week, he says he knows he wants the title. Orton gets angry and he tells him he has the nerve to speak to him like that. He asks Cordona if he has any action figures to go play with. Orton hits him with a right hand and tells him to stay out of his business and that he wouldn’t understand.

Aleister Black vs. Sami Zayn

Before the bell rings, the lights go out and out comes Trick Williams. The bell rings and we are under way. Black with right hands but Zayn with right hands. Black with kicks. He goes for a right hand but Zayn with right hands. Zayn gets Black in the corner and climbs the second rope. He hits Black with right hands and kicks.

Back from commercial, Black with kicks and right hands. He throws Zayn to the ropes and Black with a back elbow to the face. Black with a knee to the face and he goes for the cover but Zayn kicks out. Black with a knee bar onto Zayn but Zayn gets out of it. Black with a spinning kick to the side of the head. Black climbs the top rope and lands a meteora. He goes for the cover but Zayn kicks out. Black gets up but Zayn clotheslines him to the outside of the ring. Zayn to the outside and he throws Black into the barricade. Zayn throws Black back into the ring. Zayn with the exploder into the corner. Zayn goes for the Helluva Kick but Black rolls to the outside of the ring. Black is down in front of Williams. Zayn moves Trick’s foot out of the way. Zayn throws Black back into the ring and Williams throws a drink onto Zayn’s back. Zayn turns around and Williams sits back down. Zayn hits Williams with right hands. Zayn gets back into the ring and Black hits him with Black Mass. He goes for the cover and gets the pin.

Winner: Aleister Black via Pinfall.

Backstage: Nick Aldis, Matt Cardona, Carmelo Hayes, Ilja Dragunov

Nick Aldis is backstage with Matt Cardona. He tells Aldis that he wants a match against Orton tonight but Aldis tells him that won’t happen. Cordona walks away and in comes Carmelo Hayes. Aldis tells him that the United States Champion open tonight is closed. Aldis walks away and in comes Ilja Dragunov. He tells Hayes that he has to take the shots in front of him. Hayes tells him that tonight, for one of them, it will be champagne and for the other, it will be pain. Dragunov tells him that pain will entertain.

In-Ring: Jade Cargill, Rhea Ripley, Michin, B-Fab

Jade Cargill’s music hits and out she comes to the ring. Jade says she is not there to play with the people’s time. She says she knows that Rhea is back there and she calls her out. Rhea’s music hits and out she comes. Rhea asks her if they are going to talk or if they are going to do something. She tells Jade that she doesn’t want to talk to her anymore. Jade tells her that Rhea needs the title but she doesn’t need the title or the ring. She tells Rhea that Rhea has been grinding so hard to be someone but she has been that bitch and is still that bitch. Jade says as she said, she is not here to make friends, she is here to make more money.

Rhea tells her that Jade is right about one thing, Rhea does need this. She lives for this. She has been busting her ass since she was 16 years old, she won’t let anyone come in and walk all over her. Jade tells her another sob story, she doesn’t care what she sacrificed or put in. She doesn’t care about the women in the locker room. She says wrestling didn’t make her. Rhea tells her she won’t let her disrespect her or anyone in the business. She says it is obvious that Jade knows nothing about the business. She says since the title has been around Jade’s waist, that title needs her. And she will put it in a way that she is going to understand. Now, she wants that title, she is going to take that title. That is why she has given her a big WrestleMania match, welcome to the big leagues, bitch. She asks her if they are going to continue talking or do something about it. She tells Jade she will give her the first shot, to hit her, to do something.

Jade tells her no, on her time and walks away. She leaves the ring but out come Michin and B-Fab. Michin is holding a kendo stick. Jade stands in front of Michin and B-Fab, she tells them to get in the ring. They surround the ring and Jade tells them to get in the ring. Rhea hits B-Fab but Michin hits Rhea with the kendo stick. Jade with a right hand onto Rhea. Michin and B-Fab hold Rhea and Jade with a super kick. Jade with the Jaded.

Backstage: Kit Wilson, The Miz, Danhausen

We cut to The Miz and Kit Wilson. Miz is distracted and says it has been a weird week. His family vacation got delayed because of the weather in Hawaii, he was put in the middle seat on the plane and he has a sunburn on his back that is killing him. Danhausen shows up behind them and slams them on their backs. Miz argues and Danhausen tells them to stay cursed, Miz says he is not cursed. We see a ladder fall behind them and Danhausen leaves. Miz turns around and another ladder falls.

Backstage: Solo Sikoa, The MFTs, Drew McIntyre, Jacob Fatu

We see Solo and the MFTs backstage. Solo asks them if this is how they repay him. They lost the titles and they might as well kiss WrestleMania goodbye. JC blames The Wyatts but Solo blames JC and Tama Tonga for it. Tama tells Solo to give the lantern back to the Wyatts, he isn’t acting like himself. He tells Solo that he is starting to sound like Roman. Solo asks him what he just said.

In come Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre. Fatu slams Drew into the garage door. In come WWE officials but Drew with a rake to the eyes.

WWE United States Championship Open Challenge Match
Ilja Dragunov vs. Carmelo Hayes

The bell rings and we are under way. Dragunov with right hands and chops. Dragunov woth a chop but Hayes with a kick. Hayes goes for a spring board but Dragunov moves out of the way and Hayes lands on his feet. Dragunov with the Constantin special.

Back from commercial, Hayes with a dirty Diana. He goes for the cover but Dragunov kicks out. Hayes clotheslines Dragunov over the top rope and to the outside of the ring. Hayes with a splash over the top rope and onto Dragunov. Hayes slams into the announce table after landing onto Dragunov. He throws Dragunov back into the ring. Hayes climbs the top rope and lands a frog splash. He goes for the cover but Dragunov kicks out. Hayes goes for a springboard but Dragunov catches him and lands a German suplex. Dragunov climbs the top rope and lands a senton. He goes for the cover but Hayes kicks out. Dragunov climbs the top rope and jumps but Hayes with The First 48. Dragunov falls on top of Hayes and goes for the cover but Hayes gets his foot on the bottom rope.

Back from commercial, Dragunov with the death valley driver onto the ring apron. Dragunov gets Hayes on the top rope and he goes for a superplex but Hayes reverses it into a cutter. Hayes goes for the cover but Dragunov kicks out. Hayes with chops and Dragunov with a right hand. Dragunov with a kick to the face followed by a powerbomb. He goes for the cover but Hayes kicks out. Dragunov runs towards Hayes but Hayes with The First 48. He goes for the cover but Dragunov kicks out. Hayes climbs the top rope and goes for Nothing But Net but Dragunov moves out of the way. Hayes lands on his feet and Dragunov with Torpedo Moscow. Dragunov goes for the powerbomb but Hayes reverses it into a sunset flip cover and gets the pin.

Winner: Carmelo Hayes via Pinfall to retain the WWE United States Championship.

Backstage: Damian Priest, R-Truth, Jelly Roll, Randy Orton

We cut backstage and Jelly Roll is stopped by Randy Orton. He apologizes to him for last week and to forgive him. Jelly Roll tells him that he is worried about him, he knows what it is like to be the bad guy. He knows that Orton knows what that is like too and he is not there to judge him. He says Orton lights this place up, he says Orton became a better person, he became a better man. He doesn’t understand why Orton is going back to being the bad guy. He says he knows a whole different version of Orton, he knows a great human, someone who changed this business by himself, the husband, the father, the man, he says Orton is a beautiful soul. That is the man that had his back at SummerSlam. But he doesn’t know the guy who attacked Cody last week. Life is not about what you do, it is about who you do it with.

Orton says like Cardona earlier, he knows he was wrong. He doesn’t know what to do. Jelly Roll tells him to go find Cardona and do the right thing. Orton says he hears him and he loves him. They hug.

We got a recap of the Oba Femi/Brock Lesnar segment from Monday’s Raw, as the match between these two at WrestleMania 42 was officially made.

In-Ring: Kit Wilson, Jelly Roll

Back from commercial, Kit Wilson is in the ring and he says Jelly Roll crossed the line last week. He says where he is from, when you cause a problem, they settle it like men. He calls Jelly Roll out to the ring and out comes Jelly Roll. He gets in the ring but Wilson leaves the ring. Jelly Roll tells him that if this is what he wants, this is what he will get. Jelly Roll asks for a referee. Wilson tells him that once more, the ego is two steps ahead of the brain. He says they settle this like civilized gentleman, he doesn’t fight with his fists, he fights with his words.

Wilson gets back in the ring and Jelly Roll asks him if he brought him here to have a rap battle with him. Jelly Roll tells Wilson that Wilson is not a rapper. Wilson tells him not to compare him to a rapper, he is better than them and than Jelly Roll. He says no rap battle, tonight they have slam poetry. Wilson begins reading out of a book. Wilson tells “Jelly that he can talk all he wants but he has no class, just a couple of face tattoos and a criminal past. He continues to insult Jelly Roll. Wilson calls Jelly Roll a jerk and says at least they have proof that Ozempic works.

Jelly Roll says that was pretty good. He says he didn’t bring a book but he might have something for him. He begins to freestyle and insults Wilson’s mother. Wilson hits Jelly Roll from behind with the microphone. Wilson climbs the top rope and he lands a spinning elbow.

Backstage: Giulia, Kiana James, Chelsea Green, Alba Fyre, The Irresistible Forces

We cut to Giulia and Kiana James who are backstage. James tells her that she is aware of the outcome of the match, Giulia tells her that she didn’t get the job done. Kiana apologizes and in comes Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre. Green tells her the enemy of her enemy is her friend. She mentions Tiffany and Giulia tells her that she doesn’t need any help from her. Giulia and James walk away. In come Nia Jax and Lash Legend, Nia pushes Chelsea’s wheelchair and they walk away.

Backstage: Nick Aldis, Jelly Roll

Back from commercial, Jelly Roll tells Nick Aldis that he wants Kit Wilson. Aldis makes the match for next week.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella) vs. The Irresistible Forces (Lash Legend & Nia Jax) (c)

The bell rings and we are under way. The Bell Twins with a double drop kick. Nikki and Nia in the ring. Nikki with a head lock but Nia throws her to the ropes and lands a shoulder tackle. Nia goes for an elbow but Nikki moves out of the way. Brie is tagged in and they double team Nia. Brie with an arm bar and Nikki is tagged back in. Nikki climbs the top rope and lands a double axe handle. They hit Lash with a right hand off the ring apron.

Charlotte Flair’s music hits and out she comes with Alexa Bliss. That distracts The Bella Twins and Lash hits them with a right hand.

Back from commercial, Brie with a drop kick off the top rope onto Nia. Brie with a running knee to the face. Brie with the Yes kicks. In comes Lash but Brie with a drop kick. Nia with a pop up headbutt onto Brie. She runs towards Brie but Brie moves out of the way and Nia falls to the outside of the ring. Nikki with a crossbody off the top rope onto Nia and Lash. Nikki throws Nia back into the ring. She climbs the top rope but Nia with a right hand. Nia gets Nikki on her shoulders and Lash is tagged in. Nia climbs the second rope and lands a Samoan drop. Lash climbs the second rope and she lands a frog splash. She goes for the cover but Brie breaks it up. Brie with a bronco buster. Brie to the outside but Nia slams her into the ring apron. Nikki with the Fearless lock. Nia grabs one of the titles and she goes to hit Brie with it but Charlotte hits Nia and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner: The Irresistible Forces via Disqualification to retain the WWE Women’s Tag Tean Championship.

Nikki gets in Flair’s face but Alexa gets in her face. Both teams begin to fight in the ring. In come Nia and Lash Legend into the ring. Legend with a headbutt onto Flair followed by a bear hug. Nia with a leg drop onto Flair off the second rope.

Backstage: Randy Orton

We cut to the back and Randy Orton is talking on the phone. He says the person is right, he will go to the ring right now and fix it. Orton hangs up the phone.

In-Ring: Randy Orton, Matt Cardona

Back from commercial, Randy Orton’s music hits and out he comes with the steel chair. Orton says he has an apology that needs to make to everyone but more importantly he has an apology to give to Matt Cardona. He asks Matt to come out, he wants to do it in front of everyone. Cardona’s music hits and out he comes. Orton says that he is legitimately sorry, they go way back, he has known him for 20 years. Orton says he is sorry and he has an apology to make to Cody next week. He asks Matt if he will forgive him. They shake hands and hug. Orton low blows Cardona and hits him with an RKO. Orton throws Cardona to the outside of the ring. He places Cardona on the announce table and hits him with right hands. Orton grabs the ring steps but out come WWE officials. Orton stops but he grabs Cardona and throws him back into the ring. Orton with right hands. He places Cardona’s arm in between the chair but WWE officials get in the ring and break it up. Orton stops but he steps on the chair. WWE officials break it up and Orton leaves the ring

Parking Lot: Drew McIntyre, Jacob Fatu

We see Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre fighting outside and Nick Aldis runs to the back. Drew and Fatu are fighting on a ledge outside of the arena. They fight on the railing of the ledge and both men fall back off the ledge. Nick Aldis asks for a medic and SmackDown goes off the air.
