Adam Copeland on His Tag Team With Christian Cage Being Like “Statler And Waldorf From The Muppets”, Him Not Likely Working in Executive Role in Pro Wrestling After His In-Ring Retirement, & His Mother’s Reaction When He Told Her He Wanted To Be Pro Wrestler

The Sportsocracy held a recent interview with Adam Copeland. One of the topics discussed included Copeland’s thoughts about his ring name coming second in his and Christian Cage’s tag team name in AEW and compared him and Cage to Statler and Waldorf from The Muppets.

“It was really fun. that we turned that into a storyline point. Like, would refuse to team with me unless we did that. Which is just fun. We’re getting to be Statler and Waldorf from the Muppets. It really is so, so true to our actual relationship. Which is why it’s working. Because I think you watch and go, look at those two idiots. That’s how they interact in the airport, or you’re just sitting around watching a hockey game.”

Copeland also gave his thoughts about him not likely working in an executive role in professional wrestling after his retirement from his in-ring wrestling career.

“I don’t think so. I don’t think I would want to be that heavily involved if I couldn’t still do it as well. Although, who knows? I really feel like coming back after my forced retirement and getting this last six years back really kind of helped me get the stuff out of the basement that I didn’t get out the first time because I didn’t know my retirement was coming. This time, I have that knowledge, and maybe because of that, it’ll be different, and because I’m not being forced to retire at 37 now, I’ll be 53 or maybe just touching 54 by the time I retire. So there’s a reality with that. It’s like, this just ain’t possible at a certain point. It’s a really hard job.”

In a separate recent video posted by AEW to celebrate this year’s Mother’s Day, Copeland gave his thoughts about his mother’s reaction when he told her that he wanted to become a pro wrestler.

“Yeah, I think like any mother, you know, there was some concern. But it was always like, ‘please don’t break your nose and try and keep your teeth.’ So far, I have.”
