As noted before, New Day’s Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston departed from WWE earlier this month following a mutual decision from both sides over them not accepting a new restructured deal offer to stay in the company. WWE and their parent company TKO Group recently have been asking their talents to take a pay cut with one “pretty majorly pushed” name talent believed to have taken around a 50% pay cut in order to remain in the company.
WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash recently has been outspoken about TKO’s handling of WWE’s creative of late and them asking talents to take pay cuts while their executives receive big pay compensation raises.
In a recent episode of the Kliq This! podcast, Nash gave his thoughts about WWE talents current situation with TKO and his belief that they should form a union through the Screen Actors Guild to protect them better from TKO’s actions.
“This could be one of those times where this whole 1099 thing finally just… you know, it’s not. Bring the folders out. Bring them all out. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t play Endeavor at the top with the 300% increases and 1099 the dock workers… If they’re going to play by those rules, let the boys play by the same rules.
Go through Screen Actors Guild. They’ll be more than happy to take their cut of your money. It won’t be 50%, but it’ll change the ball game. Take one of the programs that’s written down and you tell me that that program isn’t more heavily written and more produced than Curb Your Enthusiasm was when all those actors got SAG paid.”
American businessman and politician Andrew Yang recently responded to Nash’s comments on Twitter agreeing that WWE wrestlers should form a union under the SAG due to them participating in WWE programming in the television industry.
“Nash is right – WWE wrestlers participate in highly-rated scripted programming every week. They should be SAG-AFTRA members already.”
