As noted before, this past Saturday’s WWE Backlash 2026 event in Tampa, Florida featured John Cena unveiling a new event called The John Cena Classic and a new fan voted championship called the Cena Classic Championship. This new event was stated to feature WWE main roster talent competing in matches against NXT brand talent.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported that while no date nor venue is currently planned for the event, one source spoken to stated that holding the event in early December would make “logistical sense” for WWE’s schedule. This same source reportedly also stated that an early December date would also coincide with the one-year anniversary of Cena’s final match against Gunther at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event show.
It was reported that Netflix is currently interested in hosting the event on its platform after immediately expressing interest in it following Cena’s announcement.
