NJPW Announces 14 of 20 Competitors for 2026 G1 Climax Tournament & Winners of IWGP Tag Titles Match at Dominion 2026 and Play-in Tournaments For Remainder Spots [Update: Great-O-Khan & HENARE Secure Spots]

Update:

United Empire’s HENARE & Great-O-Khan defeated Knockout Brothers’ OSKAR & Yuto-Ice to become the new IWGP Tag Team Champions.

As a result of their victory, both HENARE and Great-O-Khan also secured their spots in this year’s G1 Climax tournament with HENARE and Great-O-Khan to be competing in separate group blocks.

During Sunday’s Dominion 2026 event in Osaka, Japan, New Japan Pro Wrestling officially announced fourteen of the twenty competitors for this year’s G1 Climax tournament, which takes place from July 11 to August 16 in the United States and Japan.

In regards to surprise entrants for this year’s tournament, it was announced that AEW talents Konosuke Takeshita and Gabe Kidd will be competing in this year’s tournament. Takeshita was revealed for A Block and Kidd was revealed for B Block.

Similar to last year’s tournament, it was also announced that a Play-in Tournament will be held to determine four of the final six entrants for this year’s tournament with two for A Block and two for B Block. The competitors for this upcoming Play-in tournament were not revealed.

It was also announced that the winners of the IWGP Tag Team Championship match at Dominion 2026 between United Empire (HENARE & Great-O-Khan) and Knockout Brothers (OSKAR & Yuto-Ice) will take the other two remaining spots with each member going in separate blocks.
