Jacques Rougeau Reportedly Threw ‘Tantrum’ Backstage at AEW Redemption

AEW’s Redemption event on July 26 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada featured a tribute segment honoring the legendary The Rogueau wrestling family. This tribute segment took place during the Buy-In pre-show and featured Raymond and Jacques Rougeau making an appearance.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that Jacques was involved in an incident backstage at the show.

Meltzer reported that this incident revolved around Jacques throwing a “tantrum” backstage over AEW refusing to play a tribute video that he had created for the segment.

Those spoken to reportedly stated that the reason why AEW officials refused to play the video was due to it was too long in length, contained footage and music that they do not have the rights to, and had A.I.-generated content that AEW did not want to use for the show.

Meltzer reported that this was the reason why the tribute ceremony did not feature a video being aired. Jacques reportedly had told AEW that he would take care of it and AEW only received his video on the day of the show. This reportedly led to AEW not being able to create a new video in time for the show.

In regards to Jacques tantrum incident, Meltzer reported that one AEW official had told him to calm down or they would have to kick him out.

In regards to Jacques being booed by the crowd at the show during his speech, Meltzer reported that this was due to Jacques developing a bad reputation within the wrestling scene and city over the years. Meltzer reported “There was just a recent incident we covered not that many weeks ago. But there are local stories like that going back decades. He’s done so many retirement matches that local media doesn’t trust him. Many area independent wrestlers want nothing to do with shows he’s involved with.”
