PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources within WWE stated that the Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk match for the Undisputed WWE Championship at tonight’s SummerSlam 2026 Night 1 event will not be featuring a stipulation added to it.

Johnson speculated that the reason why the commemorative chairs for SummerSlam listed the match as being held under Street Fight rules was likely just due to “the left hand not knowing what the right is doing” in regards to WWE’s creative and marketing departments being on two different pages.

WWE SummerSlam Night 1 takes place tonight at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Among the matches featured for tonight’s card includes an Undisputed WWE Championship match of Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk (c).

Fightful’s Ishaan Sharma reported that CM Punk posted a photo on his Instagram Stories showing the official commemorative chairs for SummerSlam. This chair lists the Rhodes vs. Punk match as being held under Street Fight rules.

WWE has yet to make an official announcement regarding this potential new stipulation for the match.

In regards to the match order for tonight’s Night 1 event, PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that the Hell in a Cell match is currently scheduled to main event the show based on an internal match card list.
