Chelsea Green on Her “Didn’t Think Anything Of Michael Hayes’ Comment On Unreal, I Dedicated Title Win To Him For The Fans”, Her Own Marketing Strategy WWE Didn’t Understand, Her Projects Outside WWE, & Wanting To Start A Family With Her Husband Matt Cardona Soon

As noted before, WWE’s SummerSlam 2026 Night 2 event earlier this month in Minneapolis, Minnesota featured Chelsea Green becoming the new Interim WWE Women’s Champion. Following her victory, Green dedicated her win to Michael Hayes in reference to negative comments he made about her star status in WWE and lack of faith in her becoming a top star in the company on the WWE: Unreal docuseries. Green recently defended Hayes’ comments stating that he had been a supporter of her since she came back to WWE and how at the end of the day, what he said about her was right.

A recent episode of The Nikki & Brie Show podcast featured Green as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Green’s thoughts about her dedicating her Interim WWE Women’s title win to Hayes.

“Poor Michael Hayes. He’s never going to live this down. Until the end of time. It’s going to be me in the history book with a little picture of him beside it. My number one opp: Michael Hayes.

I’m not an emotional person at all. I also don’t hold grudges. In fact, I forget a lot of times; my girlfriends have to remind me, ‘You don’t like that person.’ I was so emotional that entire day. I had seen Michael Hayes and he had given me words of encouragement. On Unreal, I watched it and didn’t think anything of it. When I started getting flooded with texts, I changed my mind. ‘Oh yeah, that was kind of mean and rude.’ They’re putting you in this box when you’ve constantly fought to get out. When I went on the post-show, I was like, ‘I have to do this.’ Even though I don’t feel any type of way about it, I have to dedicate this win to him because I’m a petty queen. The fans need to that. That’s what they wanted to hear, whether I cared about it or not. They needed the moment of me saying it. Michael Hayes is such a good sport.”

Green also gave her thoughts about how when she held the WWE Women’s United States Champion and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, she would take the title to every appearance she had booked for herself as part of a marketing strategy that WWE officials didn’t understand at the time.

“Oh, green light 100%. It’s actually the only reason that I feel like people started acknowledging me was at the beginning when I won the tag titles. I took that everywhere.

I took it to every game. I got myself booked on things that WWE was like, ‘What is this?’ I’m like, ‘It matters to about 10 people.’ And like those 10 people will tell their family and friends. I took it everywhere, and I acted like that was the world title.

So definitely green light, and I think you should be obnoxious because otherwise nobody will know and nobody will care.”

Green also gave her thoughts about her recent projects outside of WWE.

“I have a horror movie called Red Wedding that’s coming out. So, I just filmed it in May. I was actually going between doing night shoots on set in Alabama to SmackDowns. It was insane. I would work from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., take the 8 a.m. flight to SmackDown, go right to the arena, do SmackDown, take the red-eye back to Alabama, and then start again.

I absolutely did. It was so terrifying. I had all prosthetics put on. I can’t wait to show pictures. I had all these prosthetics on and it scared myself. It was so cool. I don’t like horror. It brought out like a love for that genre that I didn’t know I had. So, I’m hoping that once that comes out that maybe the horror genre accepts me in, and maybe I get to do more of those.”

Green also gave her thoughts about her wanting to start a family with her husband and WWE talent Mat Cardona soon.

“I’m 35, Nikki. I’ve told you this, I want to start a family. Matt and I, we’ve started this new era of like, when we get annoyed with each other, it’s more of like, ‘No, you need to change this because when we have kids, you cannot be doing that.’ Like, I’ll do it all the time. This poor man is so sick of it.

But, you know, I’m 35, I wanted to have kids five years ago before I came back. And we decided together that I would come back to WWE so that I wouldn’t have any resentment towards us and our future family. But now, I’ve done the thing [won the interim WWE Women’s Championship]. So if it happens, like, God willing, I would be so — I would be so happy.”
