A recent episode of The Varsity with John Ourand podcast featured WWE President Nick Khan as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about WWE fans complaining about not being able to watch WWE PLEs on ESPN Unlimited when WWE’s streaming deal with ESPN launched in September of 2025.
“It’s sort of why Twitter was created.
Those complaints, some of them we look at and say, ‘There is some truth to this. Let’s make a little adjustment to this or that.’
For companies that read it, believe it, and react to it, it never ever works. Even if you see some of these companies that took some of these far right or far left positions, that’s not what most people are looking for. Most people are looking for left center, right center, they are looking for the same thing in the sports space. You can’t be reactive to that sort of thing. You have to rely on your team to know we have the best creative in terms of all of wrestling in Triple H, the best live events team, the best merchandise and consumer products team. They’re able to monetize it. If you’ve seen the growth in TKO with UFC, WWE, On Location, IMG, PBR, each of these continue to grow every year. It’s not easy, but it’s not supposed to be easy. We have to continue to develop and redevelop what we do and make sure we have the right team in place to help make the right decision.
There are wins and losses on a daily basis. You just have to hope that you can get more wins than losses, and if you can, in our business, the stock price is high.”
Khan also gave his thoughts about WWE holding their first ever WrestleMania event in Saudi Arabia with WrestleMania 43 in 2027.
“It’s going to be a significant show. We’re already across the creative, that’s subject to any injury. We’re already across the creative. In addition to that, we announced to shows form the MSG Theater. WrestleMania Saturday will have a watch-along party followed by NXT or AAA, and the next day, at MSG Theater, a watch-along party followed by NXT or AAA, whichever one didn’t go on Saturday. We’re also going to do viewing parties from the US and other countries. We think, ultimately, the fans will go home happy.”
Khan also gave his thoughts about how WWE has been pleased with the viewership growth for Lucha Libra AAA shows since their acquisition of the company in April of 2025.
“We bought a lucha libre company called AAA about a year and a half ago. We have that intentionally on YouTube outside of Mexico, where it’s on Fox Mexico. And that’s the Rupert [Murdoch] Fox, not to be confused with the other Fox where there’s some litigation and stuff that we have nothing to do with. So part of being on Fox Mexico is being on Tubi. That’s free to air in Mexico. We love that for that country. And YouTube is obviously free globally, so you’re seeing significant audience growth in our Lucha Libre AAA product.”
