Xelina Comments On Her Wrestling Ambition To Win A World Title To Honor Her Late Father

Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown on SI held a recent interview with Xelina, former Zelina Vega in WWE. One of the topics discussed included Xelina’s thoughts about her wrestling ambition is to win a World title to honor her late father.

“Even though I got to bring the United States Championship to the 9/11 Memorial, I still have this urge to bring him a World Title. I don’t know where that title comes from – I don’t know if it’s WWE. I left WWE in 2020, I came back, and now I’m gone again, and who knows what happens. But if it’s not with WWE, that doesn’t mean it can’t be with House of Glory, or TNA, or AEW, or CMLL, or wherever.”

Xelina also gave her thoughts about how pro wrestling helped her during dark periods in her life.

“It was the only thing that pulled me out of a dark depression. It really hit me when I was about 15. I used to go with my dad every weekend, and even after 9/11, as a kid, I’d pack my bags thinking I was just going to go see him – like somehow he’d have gotten out of there. By the time I was 15, it really hit me, and I asked myself, okay, what was the thing he and I shared the most? Professional wrestling.
So I thought, I think I can do this – for me, and to live his dream and mine at the same time. I made a promise back then: I’m going to bring him a championship. That gave me a distraction, but it also gave me something to fight for. I go into survival mode when I feel my lowest – tunnel vision on one thing. For me, that was it: I have this promise to keep, and I’m not going to feel fulfilled until I do.”

This past Wednesday’s MLP Mayhem show on TSN2 featured Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling airing footage of Steve Maclin attacking Adam Copeland backstage at this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite Rebel Heart show in Athens, Georgia.

Maclin is currently scheduled to face off against Copeland in a singles match at next month’s Northern Rising 2026 event on October 3 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

CMLL recently announced the card for their Domingo Familiar Internacional show on September 13 at the Arena Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico.

This upcoming show will be going head-to-head against WWE and Lucha Libre AAA’s Triplemania 34 Night 2 show that same night in Mexico City.

Misc. Wrestling News & Notes

As noted before, WWE released around 10 known talents from their NXT, WWE EVOLVE, and WWE LFG brands earlier this month. Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported in a recent Q&A article that most of those who were released by WWE in the most recent round of cuts are expected to retire from their wrestling careers. Sapp reported that most of those who were cut had no wrestling background when they were originally signed by WWE. Sapp speculated that Wendy Choo and Anya Rune likely will be the only ones from the group who will continue wrestling due to they came from wrestling backgrounds and worked for other companies prior to joining WWE.

Mystery Wrestling recently announced that The Blade will be making an appearance at their Mystery Wrestling 29 event on September 13 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was announced that The Blade will be on guest commentary at the show.

Tokyo Joshi Wrestling recently announced that Jushin Thunder Liger will be making an appearance for the company at their Wrestle Princess 2026 event on October 3 in Ota City, Japan. It was announced that Liger will be the special guest referee for the singles match between Mizuki and Hyper Misao at the event.

AIPT Comics reported that Marvel Comics recently released a preview of their upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #1000 issue. This upcoming issue was revealed to feature WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque and WWE Director of Character Development Rob Fee among the contributors.

Bleacher Report reported that Logan Paul and his brother and celebrity boxer Jake Paul will be launching a new unscripted fight competition series that will air on Hulu and ESPN. This upcoming new reality competition series will feature the Paul Brothers coaching opposite teams that will be competing against each other. It was reported that challenges will include social strategy, team skills, survival tests, and exhibition fights. It was also reported that a premiere date for the upcoming new series has yet to be announced.

Vantage Media announced that they have recently acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the upcoming romantic holiday film titled The Christmas Heartbeat. This upcoming new film features WWE Hall of Famer and AEW personality Mick Foley among its cast and is currently scheduled to be released on September 29.

West Coast Pro Wrestling recently announced that Leah Night will be making an appearance for the company at their West Coast Pro 8 event on November 13 in San Francisco, California.

Paradigm Pro Wrestling recently announced that they will be coming out of their hiatus to hold their 150th event this November. It was announced that they currently do not know if this will just be a one-off event or if it will be the restart of the company running events regularly again. Paradigm Pro Wrestling has been on a hiatus since September of 2024.

CMLL talent El Vigía announced on Instagram that he recently underwent successful surgery on his leg for an undisclosed injury.
