The Rock’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island was #3 at the box office this weekend. The film made $13.5 million, taking it’s domestic total to $76.7 million. At the international box office the film was #1, making $18.5 million. Worldwide the film has made a total of $207.7 million, and the film’s budget was $79 million.
Keep in mind that a studio recoups 55% of a film’s grosses on average, meaning it needs to approximately double its budget to be profitable during its theatrical run.
The first film in the franchise, Journey to the Center of the Earth, was released in 2008 and made a total of $241.9 million worldwide.
