MMAScoops.com is reporting that Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson has signed a deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship to appear as a participant on the upcoming tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter, according to Yahoo Sports.
UFC President Dana White has been very outspoken about the idea of Kimbo in the UFC, calling him a “joke,” a “bum”, “not a real fighter” and said the 155-pound UFC Lightweight champion B.J. Penn would “annihilate” the 230-pound Slice.
Last fall, White was questioned about Kimbo at a press conference and said, “What has the guy done to deserve to be in the UFC? Nothing. I don’t consider him a real athlete or anything. He won’t win The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). The offer is out there if he wants to take it and he won’t win it. I might put a heavyweight show together just for him.”
After news broke that Kimbo will be appearing on The Ultimate Fighter, Dana White spoke to The Carmichael Dave Show and said:
“I don’t know if there’s anybody I’ve ever talked any more smack about than this guy…. I don’t know how he’s going to do. I gotta respect that…. He walked into the gym [today] and this guy is pretty serious. He wasn’t messing around. He wasn’t joking. He wasn’t laughing. I don’t think he’s a big Dana White fan either … how could he be after all the things that have gone back and forth. We’re gonna find out this season if he’s for real or not…. I’ve talked a lot of stuff about Kimbo. But I absolutely respect the fact that he’s coming on [the show].”
Season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter premiers on Spike TV on September 16, will feature only heavyweight fighters and will be coached by former UFC Light Heavyweight champions Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans.
