As noted last week, World Wrestling Entertainment reported this past Thursday that WrestleMania XXV drew fewer than the targeted 1.0 million pay-per-view buys, according to their preliminary figures. According to a chart posted on their corporate website, the show drew approximately 975,000 buys. Company executives said during their quarterly conference call with investors a weeks ago that they were confident WrestleMania would reach 1.0 million pay-per-view buys. However, not all buys have been accounted for, so it’s still a possibility. The pay-per-view buy number for Backlash was also released and it drew fewer than 200,000 buys. Preliminary figures have the show doing 185,000 buys. Last year’s event drew 200,000 total buys.
WWE was mentioned at No. 9 on David Letterman’s “Top Ten List” this past Monday. In regards to Sonia Sotomayor, who was recently nominated by President Barack Obama for the U.S. Supreme Court seat vacated by retiring Justice David Souter, No. 9 states that she “got her start as a WWE wrestling referee.”
Edge is ranked No. 1 on this week’s edition of the POWER 25 on WWE.com.
