Ofcom recently warned UK broadcaster Sky after complaints due to broadcast of violence material. The material was the WWE’s vignettes showing Wade Barrett as a “bare knuckle” fighter to re-introduce him last year. The complaints were after the promo was aired on the Saturday morning broadcast of WWE Superstars on 11/10/12. The series airs at 9 AM on Sky One.
Most of the complaints were over if the vignette was suitable for a series where half of the audience is under the age of 16. The issue was close-ups of punches and kicks. Sky said they would edit out these types of scenes in the future. They also said they already edit out headbutts and mild language on WWE programming.
WWE hasn’t run the promos for months. You can read the full complaint and verdict on page 23 here.
