Various: Mike Kanellis Update, New Japan Cup 2018 Update, Indies

Current status of WWE’s Mike Kanellis

As previously reported, Kanellis entered WWE’s drug rehab program last year in an effort to get the help needed to overcome his addiction to prescription painkillers, which he said he had for the previous three years.

Kanellis recently revealed on Twitter that he is currently eight months sober and publicly thanked both WWE and fans for the support during his rehab process.


Quarterfinals Results and Remaining Schedule for NJPW’s New Japan Cup Tournament

Following Monday’s event, all of the quarterfinals matches for New Japan Pro Wrestling’s on-going New Japan Cup tournament were set in place. After taking Tuesday off for rest and traveling, New Japan held another New Japan Cup show earlier today featuring Michael Elgin versus Juice Robinson and Hiroshi Tanahashi versus Bad Luck Fale. Both Robinson and Tanahashi advanced to the next round of the tournament.

NJPW will be holding another New Japan Cup show on March 15th at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo featuring the remaining quarterfinals matches of Kota Ibushi versus Zack Sabre Jr. and Sanada versus Toru Yano.

In regards to the tournament’s remaining schedule, the semifinals round will occur on March 16th and March 18th while the finals will occur on March 21st. The winner of this tournament will revive an automatic title shot for the championship of their choosing at Sakura Genesis event on April 1st.


Misc. Wrestling News & Notes

CHIKARA announced Kimber Lee (Abbey Laith in WWE) will be competing in their upcoming King of Trios tournament. Lee will be teaming up with Los Ice Creams and is the second team officially revealed for this year’s tournament.

Joey Janela recently announced a new match for the card of GCW’s Joey Janela Spring Break II event on April 6th. This will be a singles match of Nick Gage versus Penta El Zero M (Pentagon Dark in Lucha Underground).

Future Stars of Wrestling revealed they are currently in talks with Impact Wrestling in regards to collaborating on an event in either June or July.
